Lorrie Peake and William Peake Found Dead: Community Mourns
Lorrie Peake and William Peake Found Dead, Death Obituary:
A deeply tragic domestic incident in Cobb County, Georgia, has left two people dead following a lengthy SWAT standoff at a home on Vandiver Drive in the unincorporated Marietta area. The event unfolded Sunday afternoon and has since left the community in shock as authorities continue to piece together what led to the fatal outcome.
According to Cobb County police, the situation began early Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. when officers were called to the residence to conduct a welfare check on 71-year-old Lorrie Peake. A family member had reported being unable to reach her, prompting concern for her safety. When officers arrived at the home, they encountered her son, 29-year-old William Peake, inside. Police stated that he did not comply with repeated requests to come outside or engage with officers.
While authorities were in the process of securing a search warrant to enter the residence, a gunshot was heard from inside the home, escalating the seriousness of the situation. Due to the uncertainty and potential danger, SWAT teams were called to the scene and arrived later that morning, around 11:30 a.m., to take over the response.
Officials reported that during the standoff, William Peake allegedly fired a shot toward SWAT personnel. In response, a SWAT sniper discharged a round that struck him. Despite ongoing efforts to resolve the standoff safely, the situation continued for several hours as officers worked cautiously to secure the home.
It was not until approximately 4:00 p.m. that authorities entered the residence and found William Peake deceased from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Inside the home, officers also discovered Lorrie Peake deceased. Investigators believe that William Peake fatally shot his mother before taking his own life, though the full circumstances remain under active investigation.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident. The Cobb County Police Department is leading the investigation into Lorrie Peake’s death, while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting a separate review into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard protocol in such cases.
The incident has left the local community grappling with grief and unanswered questions as officials continue their work to understand how the situation unfolded.
