Harry Washington III, 32, Motorcycle Crash, Maryland Route 210 in Charles County, Death: Family Mourns
Harry Washington III, 32, Motorcycle Crash, Death Obituary:
Maryland State Police are investigating a tragic hit-and-run crash on Maryland Route 210 in Charles County that claimed the life of 32-year-old Harry Washington III of Indian Head and left his 9-year-old daughter injured.
The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday near Jenkins Lane when, according to preliminary findings, an orange 2013 Dodge Dart crossed into the southbound lanes of Route 210 and entered the path of Washington’s Suzuki motorcycle. The impact was severe, throwing both riders from the bike. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and airlifted both victims to nearby hospitals. Despite lifesaving efforts, Washington later died from his injuries. His young daughter survived, though her condition has not been publicly released.
Investigators say the crash happened suddenly and left little to no time for Washington to react. The roadway at the time was moderately traveled, and officials are still working to determine why the Dodge Dart crossed into oncoming traffic. Possible contributing factors under review include driver distraction, impairment, excessive speed, or an unsafe maneuver.
What makes the case especially serious is what happened immediately afterward. Authorities say both the driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot instead of staying to assist or call for help. The passenger, later identified as 43-year-old Jose Osmin Orellana Santamaria of White Plains, eventually returned and requested medical attention. He was taken to a hospital and is cooperating with investigators.
The driver of the Dodge Dart remains at large, and Maryland State Police are actively searching for them. Investigators are reviewing physical evidence from the crash scene, examining the vehicle, and checking any available surveillance or dashcam footage to identify the driver and understand the full sequence of events.
The crash has left the Indian Head community grieving the loss of Washington, remembered as a young father who was riding with his daughter at the time of the collision. Friends and family are now focused on both mourning his death and supporting the recovery of his injured child.
Route 210 was closed for several hours as troopers conducted a detailed reconstruction of the crash. Authorities continue to ask anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
