A fatal motorcycle crash early Sunday morning in Mission has left one rider dead after a chain-reaction collision linked to a fleeing motorcyclist.

The incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. near West Expressway 83 and Holland Avenue when a traffic stop initiated by the Texas Department of Public Safety escalated into a deadly situation. According to DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez, a trooper attempted to stop a rider for a violation, but the individual refused to pull over and fled.

During the attempted escape, the fleeing motorcyclist collided with a second rider identified by acquaintances as John “ZUKI.” The impact proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his full legal name pending notification of family.

Investigators have not confirmed the condition or status of the fleeing rider, including whether the individual was injured, detained, or fled the scene. The case remains under active investigation.

The Mission Police Department is leading the crash reconstruction, working to determine speed, positioning, and contributing factors. Officials are also reviewing surveillance footage and witness accounts to establish the exact sequence of events.
